Bacteriological quality of stored water at households

Unsafe drinking water, along with poor sanitation and hygiene, are the main contributors to an estimated 4 billion cases of diarrhea disease annually, causing more than 1.5 million deaths, mostly among children less than 5 years of age (WHO 2005). About 1.1 billion people in developing countries remain without access for improved sources of water, and about 2.4 billion have no access to any form of improved sanitation services. As a consequence, 2.2 million people in developing countries, most of them children, die every year from diseases associated with lack of safe drinking-water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene. Diarrheal illness remains a major killer in children’s and it is estimated that 80% of all illness in developing countries is related to water and sanitation (WHO, 2007).This could be due to the economy of the country which couldn't support the cost of conventional water treatment. Therefore due attention must be given for treating water at households.
